A must buy upgrade. I didnt realy care for the 1080p resolution, but the anti-glare screen is remarkable. I do not think i will be able to use any laptop ever again without an anti-glare screen.

My netbook also had an anti-glare screen which i loved. Wished my ipad 2 had one too :(

the screen is simply awesome. I've had DV6's with both types of screens and I wouldn't bat an eye to spend the extra coin to get the HD screen next time. Great vertical viewing angles and super-crisp resolution. watching a blu-ray on it is a must!

Also to add. HP's 720p screen are probably the worst screens imaginable for a laptop. HP's 1080p screen however are defiantly near the top spot for best.

I have 1920x1080 on my DV8, but its glossy, rendering it very unpleasant when there is lot of light. In low light situations it is pretty awesome.

Is it an IPS screen? How are the colors? Contrast ratio?

I believe it is not an IPS display, but it actually has very good color and contrast. It is definitely one of the best screens I have ever used.

    it's an AUO B156HW01 V3 panel.

It's a TN panel, but one of the better ones out there.

any more evaluations of this screen?

I am debating whether to save $150, buy this screen, or buy an external monitor for 169.99

I have an awesome 24" 3D monitor that i bought for around 400 dollars. I did not think i would need the 1080p upgrade but did it anyway for the anti-glare screen. And OMG, i do noy even use my monitor anymore because the screen is fantastic.

I been posting in this thread multiple time because i realy really believe every one should get this upgrade. It is one thing hp did perfectly.

Don't skip the screen upgrade. If you skip the upgrade, you'll have to deal with the mediocre 1366x768 screen any time you want to take the laptop on-the-go. You don't want to have to be tied to your external monitor all the time.

You can sacrifice speakers, hard drive, or memory, because:
    - external speakers and external hard drives are very easy to take on-the-go
    - RAM can always be upgraded later for cheaper than it costs to upgrade on the config page

    Don't sacrifice the screen, because:
    - You can't take your external monitor with you.

Just received my dv6t q.e. with the upgraded screen. The picture quality is phenomenal. I like the resolution and it definitely looks a lot more professional than the glossy type screens.

When you throw in the coupon code (if available at that time) it ends up costing $100.50. It is definitely the best $100 you can put into customizing this laptop!

    I kinda concur with primeboss.
I'll also add that you will be stuck with the laptop screen...you can always save for the monitor and buy it later. And EVEN if you get a monitor later, you will STILL be able to enjoy the 1920x1080 screen using a dual monitor setup.

I hate glossy screens...given the bump in res + antiglare..its a no brainer. Unless you are so strapped for cash that you cannot think about saving $150 in the next year or two to also buy the external monitor.

In fact, I'd like to ask you guys: is there ANY other laptop on the market, HP or otherwise, costing less than $1600, and which has a 1920x1080 anti-glare screen?

Dell XPS 15 and HP Pavilion dv6t pretty much two of the best notebook models you can get as they both are inexpensive and can have a 1920 x 1080 screen.

I have heard that the Dell XPS 15's screen is even better than HP's

I think I am *not* going to get an external monitor and just get the 1080 screen, even though the laptop will pretty much stay on my desk and go nowhere.

Dude, if your laptop is going to sit at your desk most of the time, then get an external monitor. Yes the 1080p is great, but you can't really compare a monstrous 24" monitor to a 15" screen. I personally use a 26" monitor at the desk and unless laptop screen gave me special powers, I'd be using the monitor.

You can also adjust the monitor to a comfortable eye-level, whereas, with a laptop screen you'll be bending down your neck to look at the screen, which is bad for your neck and spine in the long run.

Actually the best thing to do would be get the 1080p screen in the laptop right now, because you can't upgrade that later.

Then if you want a monitor later, get one when you make more cash.

Any of these screens should work:
    AUO B156HW01 v0 - glossy, 300 nits of brightness, 60% color gamut
    AUO B156HW01 v1 - matte, 300 nits of brightness, 60% color gamut
AUO B156HW01 v3 - matte, 220 nits of brightness, 60% color gamut (the one the HP uses)
    AUO B156HW01 v4 - matte, 270 nits of brightness, 95% color gamut
    AUO B156HW01 v7 - glossy, 270 nits of brightness, 95% color gamut
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) - ???, ??? nits of brightness, 60% color gamut
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B3) - ???, ??? nits of brightness, 60% color gamut

However you also need to track down the dual-channel LVDS cable part number, and order it. I'm not sure if anyone has been able to do this yet.

Since you have a Dell in your signature....

How does the HP 1080p screen compare to the Dell R+GBLED? I am debating whether to get a XPS 15 with the R+GBLED or the DV6 with the FHD. I don't game at all, but do a lot of Photoshop and need a bright screen (300 nit+).

    The Dell XPS 15 1080p is AUO17ED (B156HW01 v7).
