i think it should be fine, but why would you want 5400 rpms?

According to the service and maintenance guide, the Envy 14 "supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives (HD) and solid-state drives (SSD), 12.5-mm (.49-in) and 9.5-mm (.37-in) thicknesses." So yes, they will fit 12.5mm thick drives.

As far as I know, no one makes a 7200 rpm 1tb drive, but I could be wrong.

1tb 2.5in drives are new tech that just came out about a month or 2 ago... all the reviews of the drive say its darn slow...you might be better off getting a 750gb hdd instead...imo

Just got the Samsung 1TB drive in the mail today and it would not fit. The drive is too tall and wouldn't slide into the connectors. I guess I'm gonna RMA it and get a 9.5mm drive.

Weird - the service manual definitely says it should accept that size, though, to be honest, I've been skeptical since I heard that. I'm a bit surprised that people are saying it's slow, though - I would have thought that 1 TB would mean higher-density platters, which are supposedly just as important for increasing HDD performance as RPM (hence some people suggesting that a 5400 RPM 640 GB drive will be as fast as a 7200 RPM 500).
