I wanted to confirm on the order I should do these things when I get my machine Monday or Teusday:
    1) remove bloatware
2)copy discs for Windows 7 backup, along with swfolder

Noob question? Do # 2 after I update windows and drivers? Or before, in case I screw something up while updating.
    Am I forgetting anything?
Thanks everyone for the wealth of info on this site!! :)

Make the backup disks first -- everything else can wait.

1: Make Backup Discs, Backup Sw folder
2: Do a Minimal System Restore (removes all bloatware while leaving important drivers behind)
    3: Set System Restore Point
    4: Windows Update
    5: Set System Restore Point
    6: Catalyst Control Center Update

I did all that. Then I followed that up with returning it for a refund. :(

noob question: How do I make these backup discs? in case I have to restore my machine back to how it looks now in the future? Ofcourse, maybe to remove this bloatware as well using MSI. Any instructions or links would be appreciated

If the laptop is new and you are still using the default OEM OS install, then you should have been prompted within the first ten minutes of having it on. Otherwise, HP includes the app "Recovery Manager" (should be a folder labeled in your start menu as such) that has the option for you to create that media.

install the latest bios, it adds manual graphics switching.
