I just got a SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 GB MMC card for my digital camera. The camera works fine with it, but my laptop can't read it. If I put it in it recognizes the drive, but won't read it. Instead it asks to format the drive and the format fails if I try to format it.

I have a 16MB card that works fine in both the camera and the laptop, but the 2GB only works in the camera.

I took the 2GB chip to a store and it read fine in other computers.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with the pavilion's card reader?

I'm note sure about the pavilion card reader however i do know that a lot of other devices have trouble reading MMC/SD cards that as over 1 gig because of the formatting just on them, it just doesnt sit well with some devices one being one of my no-name brand card readers.

Did the camera come with a driver CD? That could be causing your problems.

I have a similar problem last week. I received a 2GB SD which can be formatted in my DV4000. However, I have problem in putting in more than 1GB of file. After it is formatted in my DV4000, it cannot be recognized/read in my PDA. It cannot be even re-formatted on my PDA. Anyway, I am sending it back for replacement. I have read on another forum that a 4GB SD formatted in a HP laptop cannot be read by a PDA and vice versa. The problem was solved by using a stand alone card reader. After it is formatted in that card reader, it can be read by both the laptop and the PDA.

I just reconfirmed the problem with HP laptop's SD/MMC slot. It has a 1GB limit. I got a new 2GB SD card which is already come formatted. When I inserted it into the slot, it was detected and asked for formatting. I thought it was not formatted somehow so I let it formatted it. After that, it can be recognised "properly" in the DV4000 but not my camera or PDA. The camera and PDA saw the card but cannot read or format it. It cannot be even detected using an external card reader. When I transfer file to it in DV4000, it froze whenever it is around 1GB filled. I tried reformatting it in FAT16 and FAT32 several times and neither way solved the problem. Finally I tried low level formatting in DV4000 and it stuck at ~50% (~1GB) again. I thought it was a DOA and got a replacement yesterday. This time, I put it in my camera and PDA to test it first. It is pre-formatted and recognized immediately without any problem. When I put it into the DV4000 SD slot, again it asked for formatting it. Of course, I am not that stupid to kill another SD. I plugged in an external card reader and transfer 1.5GB of files without any problem. The 2GB card is now working well in my camera, my PDA, and my laptop with external reader.

A quick update. It seems the driver 2.00A from July 2005 solved the problem. My DV4000 was ordered in October and I thought it should have that driver installed. Obviously, it was not. Now it can detect and read the files on the 2GB SD without asking me to format it again.
