I got my Envy 14 on June 19th 2011 and according to the hp support assist the warranty for this machine was activated in January of this year and ends on 2/15/2012.

    1. why would my warranty start months before I got the computer? I bought it from the Microsoft online store.

    2. I thought the Envy line came with a 2 year warranty ( http://www.shopping.hp.com/laptop/envy). If that's correct, shouldn't the end date be january 2013 if it was activated in January 2011?

The warranty is activated on "build" date. Check your bios info for that.

Question. What CPU does your Envy have? By purchasing at the Microsoft store, not sure what the deal is with the warranty then...

If that machine was built in January 2011, you got one that's been sitting on the shelf for awhile. You are going to have to talk to Customer Service about that one.

I have the i5 m480 @ 2.67GHz. If it is activated on build date it should still end in 2013 and not 2012 since its a 2 year, no?

Not sure. That would be a Microsoft store question. They may pass on savings, because when they acquired the machine...did THEY get a one or two year warranty? If MS had it built and shipped with ONE year...that's what you get. Call MS and find out what is going on. Or call HP and see if you can add additional warranty. A friend of mine bought her daughter a Pavillion for graduation through Costco. Found that the machine had been built three months earlier...so warranty would expire like yours. Purchased extended warranty...lost the three months anyway. Don't know what the terms were when MS purchased the machine.

I just checked the MS store website...found an Envy 17...no mention of Warranty at all on that machine. 90 days from MS for unlimited help...Think you need to call

I think the 2 yr warranty only applies to customized computers you buy from HP. It seems like yours was a prebuilt model.

Called up hp and they said its only 2 year if bought from hp but they can correct the activation date to reflect when it was actually purchased.

If you are happy with the machine...then do it...did you want more warranty? Will still have to purchase...
