So check this out guys, after recieving my new v2000z I installed XP Pro. During setup of drivers and what not, I was not able to install/use the Omega drivers. It wouldn't recognize my card as ATI, I am pretty sure that ATI's Catalyst did the same thing. Now I am on the HP supplied sheit drivers off the CD, and I get this error.
"Access violation at address 004A4433F in module "atitray.exe" Read of adress 000000020"
AND
"Can not load low level device driver,. Please restart application."
After these two errors popup after startup, the ATI tray goes away. As we all know the HP support is worthless for stuff like this, any ideas??????????????
NOTE: when I had the manuf. installed version of XP Home I got no error with the same software.

This looks like a file version compatibility problem. Did you restart the system after attempting to install any of these drivers? Having any of these drivers in memory and trying to change to a different version may cause this type of problem. See if you can uninstall all the drivers for the ATI card and try again using the HP drivers.
You can also try a manual install of the drivers rather than a using the EXE setup program. Extract out the files and then goto device manager and update the driver for the video card. Just point to where you extracted the files and should be ok.
Also, if you tried using the official ATI drivers on your notebook, it's not going to work unless you have used the www.DriverHeaven.net/patje ATI Mobility Modder utility. It mods the install files so it will work on a Mobility chip. I don't think the 200M is a supported card, but the site says to email him and he'll try to add the support.

I downloaded the 5.7 (whatever the latest is) catalyst driver from ATI without the controll panel and it worked fine. the controll panel gave me that error you are describing above, and the hp drivers are just plain old
-
Well thanks for the help guys, I will take another crack at it. I do recall installing the Catalyst drivers off ATI's site and getting an INF error. Let me clearify some of your questions.
VenomBite:
"Did you restart the system after attempting to install any of these drivers?"
Yes, I did restart after the install. Acually I have been running these drivers for a few weeks now.
Omega drivers gave - no ATI card found (somthing like that)
Cat drivers gave - somthing like the INF error
I emailed the driver developer off DriverHeaven.net and asked about adding the 200M to the lineup. Ill let you guys know if that happens. Before I reinstall the drivers, should I delete all the ATI drivers and or files containing ATI from my windows driver directory. The Omega driver package has you go through a series of uninstalls and what not to totally remove all drivers. On my desktop/gameing computer I actually went through the registry and got rid of some there as well. Should I do the same? -
Greebler,
Trying to install the Omega drivers, then the official ATI drivers may leave some things in memory until it's rebooted, that may explain why you got that ATI error.
The INF error when installing the official drivers is because the drivers can't be installed for a Mobile product. The hardware ID's aren't in the list. The ATI Modder adds a compatible hardware ID into the list so it finds your harwdare. It'll still give a non-certified driver message, but just click continue.
I would suggest removing all the drivers from your system and then try using a different set if you want (Omega, Official or from HP/Compaq).

Ok Venom, I have done everything you said and tried to install the catylist drives. I mod the install files and start the ATI install and get this error.
"the display driver is not compatibile with the display adapter(s) in your system"
My display comes up as (Default Monitor) on, this is shown in the advanced display properties. It does not allow me to reinstall it, the button is grayed out. The correct display was installed when I had the HP ATI drivers (brightview display). In the harware monitor there is no icon for display adapters.
How did Alphafox do this with out moding it??? What do you think the issue is? -
I just downloaded it and installed it..
This is the file I used:
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/5-8_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_25203.exe -
Agreed... I used the Catalyst 5.8 drivers and they installed fine. (Same as Alphafox)

Greebler,
What drivers (source/version) did you try running the mod on? The mod needs to be run on the official ATI drivers from the ATI website. As I mentioned earlier, your 200M is not listed as a supported card for the Mod utility. Did you get a response back from the programmer before you ran the utility? If not, that could be the problem.
What are the exact steps you took to install the drivers?
-Vb- -
Well I followed his instructions with the MOD program, I knew that it was not setup for my card. I just thought I would give it a try, the x300 was on there which is aparently "similar" to my card so did a "what the hell" experiement. Anyway this is what I did:
1) Uninstalled all HP ATI drivers
2) Ran the driver cleaner prog. from Driverheaven/omegadrivers.net to clean old drivers
3) Downloaded ATI Cat drivers and put in folder
4) Targeted Mod SW @ the ATI cat directory
5) Ran ATI install after prompted via MOD SW
6) Got that error "the display driver is not compatibile with the display adapter(s) in your system"
The drivers that AlphaFox linked install fine, I give up on trying to get others to work. Thanks for the help guys!!!!
AlphaFox I got a quesiton for ya. In display prop -> adv. -> monitors, what do you have for your monitor type?? I have three listed as "default monitor" , why is this?? Shouldn't it be Brightview somthing??? I search for the "best suited driver" and it finds nothing... -
the driver doesnt know what type of display it is, lcd, crt or brightview. The three monitors are the LCD, the external vga port and the Svideo out port for a TV.
-
Gotcha, just wanted to make sure everything was now setup right.
One last issue after installing the Cat drivers you linked me to. Before when I hooked my v2000 up to my TV via S-video, it would automatically switch to a lower resolution ( i think 800x600) and displayed the video on both screens. Now after these new drivers it won't show video on the TV unless I switch the resolution my self from 1024x768 down to 8x6. Why isn't it working like before? Is there some setting I am not seeing or somthing?
Thanks Alpha and Venom for all of your help!!!! I gave you some much diserved rep points =P -
I still have only 1 rep point...
im not sure about the svideo out, did you try using the function F4 key? -
Its not that it doesn't work, its just not working like it did with teh HP drivers. With the old drivers, all you had ot do was plug in the s-video and boot it. It would come up with the "proper" resolution and display everything. Now it displays the desktop and everything, but not the actual video playing ( both normal window and full screen). I haeve to reduce the rez to 8x6 in order to get it to show actual video, regardless of format...
