Anyone know when HP usually unleashes most of their new laptop models for the new year? Or do they just kind of trickle in all year long?

A major refresh to the laptop models should happen relatively soon, since Intel is about to announce Sandy Bridge (2011 Intel 6-series platform, 2nd generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs).

Minor refreshes happen every 1-2 months afterwards. Major refreshes usually happen when a new platform is announced, which varies (although 6-9 months is probably a good estimate).

For the past 3-4 years HP has announced new models in Jan/June with volume shipments and retail availability about 45 days later. So being able to buy (mail order, retail, etc) in late Feb and Mid-August is a reasonable expectation.

Price reductions from intro prices (sales, coupons, etc) usually occur approx 60 days after volume availability.

I've also found that retail stores (except for the excrement-al Best Buy) often have in-store sales that equal or better on-line price/coupon combinations. Plus you get the machine in your hand immediately and have a place to bring it back (no return shipping costs!) in case there is an early failure.

Wonder if HP will make any radical changes in styling (in 2011). Although I wouldn't mind seeing HP or another manufacturer take a hint from the Google Chrome notebook and copy it's look.
