i have a dv9000 and i need to put the hard drive from my zd7000 in it. the 7000's hard drive is IDE and the 9000 requires that nasty little 22 pin adaptor. where can i find an IDE adaptor? ive read that HP has them but they only send them mistakenly when people order SATA adaptors. Anyone know of a place i can get one?

TigerDirect usually have these kind of parts. If not well, have faith in Ebay

Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this (I have a DV9500T and a few ZD7000's)...

After looking up the specs for the DV9000, it appears thay use SATA drives, and as you say, the ZD7000's use IDE drives. I do not believe the HP connector will help you to to install a IDE drive into the DV9000.

I believe you will need to transfer your data (and not the OS) from the IDE drive to another SATA drive.

I have bought a few of the VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapters, and had very good luck transfering between all sizes of IDE drives and 2.5" SATA drives.

I like this setup because it is light enough to travel with, and it supplies external power to the drive (unlike most of the 2.5" USB boxes that use power form the USB port).

I hope this helps, and again, if I am incorrect about the DV9000 using SATA drvies, someone please step in and correct me.

    Joe

You are correct. The only option for using an IDE drive in this laptop is by using an external USB enclosure.
