    Hi everyone,

A couple of months ago I bought a HP dv6770eb laptop (Belgian model I guess), which perfectly suits my need. As I hardly used my desktop any more and wanted all my files to be on one computer I got a Quickdock to connect, printer, keyboard, etc. This setup works just fine.

Currently I have an ageing 19" TFT connected to the VGA port of the Quickdock. I'm in the market for a larger screen.

Would the 8400M GS (with 256MB) support the 1920x1200 resolution of a 24" screen for office use (with Aero turned on) and some divx/youtube, or would it be better to limit myself to a 22"? (I'm not a gamer btw. so that doesn't really matter for me.) In case my GPU could support 1900x1200, would this work ok over the standard VGA connector on the Quickdock, or will this resolution require me to use the HDMI port of the laptop to have decent picture quality (and hence require two cables to be plugged in when docking)?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Yes, it will support 1920x1200 fine. With VGA or HDMI, your choice.

Great news! Thought my 8400M, which Vista rates only at 3,2 for Aero (4,3 for Games and 3D), would limit me to a 22" monitor. Would it be wise to invest in a 2gig Ram module to up the total Ram to 3gig in order to dedicate/share a little more memory to the GPU?

Anyway, going to check out some nice 24" screens! Thanks for replying Greg!

Turbomemory/Shared vRAM wont help much (or at all) since this will only be used if your dedicated memory runs out. 256mb is quite alot.

Though 3gb is a sweet spot to run Vista. I suggest upgrading your RAM anyway, it will improve your experience with Vista.

Im using a 22" 1650x1050 via Quickdock fine. You should be able to run 24" via VGA port. If not theres always HDMI, but no Quickdock HDMI port :(

It really is a shame there's not HDMI, or even a DVI, on the Quickdock, isn't it. Just having to plug in one cable (which I sometimes even find a little hard to actually connect to the laptop) is the whole benefit of the Quickdock.

I hit the shops yesterday, and ended up buying a nice 22". It's plenty big, the picture qualtiy is amazing, and I hooked it up to the VGA port on the Quickdock. It got recognized immediately, the resolution adapted automatically, and I can even manage to use both the laptop screen and the monitor as an extended desktop fluently! Never thought the 8400M could pull this off.

Think I will invest in that extra 2Gig Ram module though.

    Thanks for the advice!

I have the 8400m GS 128mb GPU and get 4.1 for aero score and 4.7 for Gaming Score weird you get considerably less

WEI is innacurate guys, its total thrash. I suggest avoid using it.

I suggest you use a proper benchmarking tool like 3dmark06
