    Hey guys,

I have a 2530p with the 2.5" OEM 160GB spinner in the optical bay and 1.8" bay vacant. Although this would be completely ridiculous, I'm considering getting two 160 gb intel ssds. I am wondering the 2530p has support for raid 0 and if so, how to properly configure it? This combination would clearly result in the melting of faces and possibly my computer. I don't have any experience with raids so any help is appreciated! Happy Holidays!

Also, has anyone seen X-18m G2's 80 or 160? Cant find them anywhere...

Similar question asked of a Dell E6400 here, with the answer being "no". You have a ICH9M non-raid chipset so the best you could do is software raid-0. Questionable to try to do this to begin with. The X18/X25 still not coming anywhere near close to saturating SATAII 3Gbps bandwidth with it's 4KB random IOPS speed. There are other SSDs coming out with faster IOPS. If you do happen to find a X18M G2, please report where. They seem to be Osama-like hard to find.

An interesting project could be a DIY ViDock. Attaching a HD5770 via the expresscard port would see > 10k 3dmark06, so do gaming/3D rendering on your 2530P. Even more with a HD58xx series.

Indeed, this would be an interesting project. Lack of DV out is, for me, one of the principal shortcomings of this otherwise brilliant machine. Sewell makes a USB to HDMI adapter capable of 1080p but we are still left with the 4500mhd graphics which are sufficient for an ultraportable such as this albeit weak. I have looked at the ViDock thread many times but still can't think of a proper way to enclose the card itself and the power supply. The adapter with usb support is particularly tempting because of the ease of docking at home (USB periphrials + External displays with ONE connection). Does there exist some kind of box resembling a purpose built solution? An HTPC case is a possible candidate but it seems a huge waste.

As far as the X-18m G2s, Intel must be delaying their release until the rest of the slower-selling (opposed to 2.5") 1.8 inchers have been sold. I would be more than willing to pay for the G2 but, as you said before, it isn't available at any price. Even without raid, 320 GBs of intel ssd would be sweeeeet in the 2530p. Any other candidates for 1.8" ssd?

See HD5770+remodelled xbox360 case. You would attach the box to the 2530P via the expresscard slot. Agree - no HDMI otherwise detracts from a very nice unit.

You need to have the ICH9M-R, I know both the 8530p/w and 8730w have it, and there is an option in the BIOS to enable RAID. When enabled it gives you a proper pre-boot interface for configuring the RAID arrays. So since yours is of the same vintage as those, you are gtg if you have the option in the BIOS (it appears as another option in HDD mode entry - AHCI, IDE, RAID).

before you commit to raid0, read up on what it really is and how much at risk you are for 100% data loss.
