Yiha, after lots of considering and looking for alternatives I finally ordered a 2530p today. After all, I think this is the best notebook for me.

I never bought a computer where a full windows version is not available on CD and thus never had bad experience with lots of stuff preinstalled.

How bad are the 'extras' on HP business computers in Europe? And do you have any advice on how to clear the computer up and what to delete?

Hmm.. looking at the order sheet I'm a bit confused regarding the OS

OS: Vista Business wXPP OFC Ready 2530p O/S
Restore Media: DRDVD Win XP 2530p Recover Media
Restore Media: OSCD Windows XP Pro Media

Whut?!? My guess is that someone forgot to update the order website

    Thanks,
    SFG

HP business notebooks do not come with bloatware with the exception of an antivirus trial. If your configuration comes with a Vista DVD, then that is a clean Vista OEM DVD without any additional HP utilities (those are in a separate Applications DVD).

Your configuration is correct. For certain pre-configured units, HP will ship Vista pre-installed and Windows XP recovery media. In other countries, HP ships XP pre-installed with Vista recovery discs. The idea here is that you can create recovery DVDs of your pre-installed OS, so only a set of DVDs need to be included in the retail package. Basically, the 2 OS situation is designed to meet the requirements of business customers who want the downgrade option and since there are so many of them, it only makes sense.

Oh, that's excellent news! I wasn't too keen on Vista in the first place. Though, if there were still updates available I might still be running Win2000 server  Do I in the end need to chose for either of the two or can I later also install the other, provided I have/made a recovery DVD?

Also excellent news on the lack of bloatware :) I can't wait to get started. Just a shame that the delivery will take about a month :(
