So from the research I have done am I correct in saying that the HP Dv7t cannot support the monitor/resolution mentioned above due to the lack of a Dual DVI connector?

I know it has an HDMI connector but that is limited to 1920 x 1600 correct?

Is there any way to make that happen or do I need to send back this laptop and get the SAGER 5796 in order to make this a reality?

    Thanks!

I think it depends. Does the HP dv7t have HDMI 1.3? If yes, then it should be able to support the 2560x1600 across a single HDMI cable.

The older HDMI models are limited to 1920x1200 from what I've read...

Have you tried asking HP or even the monitor company?

I'm guessing you have the 9600m GT? If you could find out if it's HDMI 1.3 then that would be good to know.

Keep in mind that the cables for dual-link and single-link DVI are different so it is possible that the laptop will support it but if you have a single-link HDMI to DVI cable, it will not work.

Thanks for all your input. I'm now looking for a docking station I can use and found the Belkin one which is nice but it doesn't seem to have an HDMI output.

Do you guys know if a docking station out there that can support HDMI 1.3? If so when you push your display to a 2560x1600 monitor through a docking station can it still work?

Lots of questions I know - thanks in advance!

The only dock that is going to have enough bandwidth to even come close to supporting this would be the HP QuickDock. No USB or ExpressCard solution is going to work.

Unless the HP dock has HDMI or dual-link-DVI...no luck for you :(.

I have a question along these lines...

I have my Dv5T (9600Gt) hooked up to my home theater system. I have the HDMI out from the laptop connected to my Receiver (Onkyo TX_SR705) and then from there out to my TV. (Samsung 5084T plasma)...

Everything works fine, audio and video, EXCEPT...

I can not change the output resolution on the laptop to 1920 x 1080. I am only able to get 1680 x 1050 out, and I can not adjust the HDMI output, all the settings are grayed out.

I think this might have something to do with the fact that the HDMI goes through the receiver before it goes to the TV. The laptop recognizes the receiver in the "monitors" section of the Nvidia control panel, but it wont let me adjust any settings!

Help, I just want to have full 1080 out to my TV!

What 30" 2560x1600 is going to support HDMi 1.3? The existing montiors (except Dell 3008) all require dual like DVI input (have not read up on 3008). You'll want to check this info out yourself, or take someone that actually has already had real experience.

That Belkin port replicator is only specked to single link DVI. There are other Express card solutions but it's expensive. For example, the Magma express card box, where you connect it to an empty PCIx16 slot and fill it with a <50watt desktop video card. You can easily get 2 dual link DVI to work off that, but the cost is 700 bucks without the vid card.

HP has a business linke laptop (don't remember what model) that does have a dual like DVI output either on the laptop or through the port replicator. Dell has a new one out as well that does 2 dual linke DVI on the port replicator, it's called something 'PLUS'. Apple 17" have had dual like support for many many years already.
