I spilled some water on my keyboard and I found someone selling an Envy Beats (2nd gen with 5830 radeon).

It works fine after drying it out overnight - however, the keyboard doesn't work properly as it inputs the keys wrong when I type.

I think the keyboards are the same except doesn't the Beats have a separate key with the "B" button? Or does the "B" button replace some other button?

Will I be able to use the keyboard from the Beats model to replace my own?

If the keyboard is the same connector then you can use it. Are you buying a whole unit just to replace a keyboard?

    It WILL work,

the only difference between beats and non-beats is that the keyboard is black, the lettering on the keys in not in capital letters and the letter b is the beats logo. Doesn't work any differently AFAIK.

Connectors are the same, screw points are the same. Don't ask how i know lol...

These keyboards are backlit too, no?

Does the backlight have a separate connector or does it get power from the regular ribbon cable?

    Thanks very much, it worked!
Yes, I had to use the touchpad as well and then I might fix up the old one and sell it or keep it around as a backup. It's a dual core and only has 2 DIMM slots, so it's not quite as powerful as the unit that had the broken keyboard. I assume all units sold without RAID SSD lack the RAID controller card? At any rate, the resolution is 1920x1080, which should improve the resale value.

It turned out that it was the keyboard connector cable that was faulty as a result of the spill, so I might be able to order a new keyboard cable as well as a new touchpad and then repair and sell the beats model.

The keyboard was not backlit. I think only the Envy 14 and the 2012 model Envy 15 have backlit keyboards.

You should fix it up and sell it. keyboards are found pretty cheap on ebay and even with the touchpad you should still be able to recover most of your costs IMO.

With regards to RAID, the beats laptop will have it. All of them did. Mine did not come with 2 hard drives initially. I plugged two SSDs in and CTRL+I worked and got me into the Intel RAID option ROM.
