Has anyone had any luck getting the hard drive caddy that is needed to install a second hard drive in the dv9000 from HP without paying that rediculous cost.

The HP partsurfers site lists the hard drive caddy (#434106-001) as $39 but with shipping and tax it comes to over $50 and that's half the cost of the new hard drive itself!

I almost bit today but decided not to on principal. What I was wondering if anyone has had any luck on coercing HP to hand one over at a reasonable cost? It's just a shame they market the laptop with the highlight of being dual hard drive capable but then nail you for another 50 bucks.

    <end of rant> :p

There was a recent thread regarding the caddy. Search in the forums. I believe there is a 3rd party website that sells the caddy for a cheaper price. But I'm not too sure about this.

Thanks. I think I saw that thread but the 3rd party sites are apparently jacking up the HP price. Most are going for 119.00 and higher and they are all out of stock - so other people are getting more ripped off than I was about to.

Those other sites are indeed ripping people off. $119 for a part that HP sells for $39 plus tax + shipping.
I myself have purchased this caddy from HP. It does come with the bracket, screws and sata connector. When I ordered from HP it said it wasn't stocked but was orderable. I went ahead and ordered it online from them anyway. the site told me it would ship 2/20 but I actually received it 2/9!

They DO have them at HP. Stay clear of those other rip off merchants.

Yeah, I got mine straight from HP. My second hard drive (7200rpm Hitachi 100 gig) arrives tomorrow. HD + bracket cost is still way cheaper then configuring the laptop with a second drive on the HP site. I just got the laptop with the 120 gig 5400 rpm drive that it defaulted on since I'll be moving that drive to my secondary drive and I don't really care about it's speed.

I ordered the part: 434106-001 and received the bracket with a 44 pin connector not the sata connector. Anyone know where I can get the sata connector?

ebay... or just get the adapter. i installed a second hard drive without using the caddy. i only installed it with the adapter. people say not to do that but i have had any problems with it. the adapter holds it in place really tight and the cover of the HDD also helps it to stay in place. it would take a lot of shaking of the hard drive to disconnect.
