I have a dv6000 and I have been finding lately that I need to restart the laptop 3 times in order for everything to work.
First time I can't click on any icons.
    Restart.
Second time when I run my mouse over the start icon the hour glass appears and I can't activate ctr,alt delete.
    Restart.
Third time the wireless does not start.
Then I proceed to reboot and and start and things run fine. Weird.
Rebooting is done by holding the power button down.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

i would ask the same thing as mujjuman, but out of curiosity, what happens when you restart the 4th time? :)

And when I hold down the power button, (on any machine i've ever bought/built) this causes a forced power down. ????

I'm guessing since he cant click anything, he forces the computer off by using the power button.

i agree but that's not a restart. He would then have to push the power button a second time to turn it on again. (a technicality, i know. something just sounds funny here) and for the machine to act 3 different ways from a successive forced power down, i'm interested. :)

I agree... that is really weird.

I'm guessing his Windows installation is really messed up... and one of the best ways to "fix" that is to start over fresh.

On the 4th restart all is fine.

I have changed some things in the start up ( msconfig ) and the Laptop seems to be ok.
I have started it several times had it's been ok.
So lets see if it settles down and runs properly.
    I'll keep you guys posted.
But in the mean time if you come across anything that directly relates to this issue let me know.
    Thanks
    Guys

In my experience, everytime u force shutdown, sumthing will mess up upon the next start up. My dv5 always did that to me when i force shutdown (no internet icon, battery icon, start button freeze etc.). So i always do a normal restart after a force shutdown and everything works the way it should. Hope that'll solve the problem in the future
