Yes. Any standard notebook SATA drive will do.

Does the notebook has some upper cap on hard disk size. for instance a dv1000t can have 100GB HD max.

    what would you pick? a 5400RPM 3.0Gb/s HDD, or a SATA150 7200RPM ?

    There is no upper cap.

SATA150 vs. SATA300 is considerably less relevant than 5400RPM vs. 7200RPM. 7200RPM will get you faster access times than 5400RPM but about the same throughput due to lower platter density on the 7200RPM drives. If you don't mind the expense and don't need the absolute highest capacity, go with 7200RPM. You won't suffer too much with a 5400RPM drive though. Avoid 4200RPM drives of course. I replaced the 4200RPM drive in my first HP notebook with a 7200RPM but didn't bother swapping out the 5400RPM drives my next two notebooks came with.

the SATA support on these are still 1.5GB/s, getting a 3GB/s drive wont make any difference as the speeds will drop down to what the SATA support is for.. in this case 1.5GB/s
