So I got a dv7t about two weeks ago, I noticed that the trackpad flexed a lot and that irritated me. The hx16 started looking really nice about a week ago, I decided I'd like one of those a lot more. Finally decided to do it yesterday, and of course, something happened to my laptop. I accidentally I dropped it on a cement floor. Yesterday it looked like I just had some scratching, nothing major, but this morning, I noticed that right side USBs are completely loose now.
Will I still get a full refund if I send it back now that its damaged?
-
Yeah you should do its before 30days and you have the receipt right?
-
Well, it was purchased from HP's website, so I mean, I have record of it, and they certainly should have record of me buying it.
How exactly do I get the whole process going? -
I believe the return period is 21 days, not 30.
-
Well, still within that regardless. Will damage adversely effect how much money I get back though? Or is it a complete refund regardless of condition?

the return period is 21 days. i know because i sent back my first dv7t after 18 days of test driving it.

Legally, they wouldn't have to give a refund if you damaged it. The product is supposed to be in the same condition as received by you. The best idea I could suggest would be to keep the laptop and purchase an extended accidental warranty for any future problems. -
You do realize that returning the item after you damaged it is not very ethical. Did you by chance purchase the accidental insurance? The moral/right thing to do is to either keep it and have it repaired or call them and let them know about the damage and see if they will still take it back so that you can order the other laptop. -
I fail to see how I've said anything that would indicate I wasn't planning on being ethical.
1. I was asking whether they or not HP gave a crap or not whether it was damaged. Some companies don't care. I was merely asking if that mattered, and no one would give me a straight answer. I'm not trying to cheat HP, I'm trying to figure out what is acceptable by their standards. I'd prefer to know what they expect before giving them a call.
2. I was already planning on returning it, I had really bad timing to drop it. All things considered, the case is in awesome condition besides two scrapes on the back on the bottom black plastic piece, and the USBs are on a completely different area, diagonal of the place that got hit the worst, and SHOULDN'T have been knocked loose my anything like that. It got hit on the rear bottom left corner, the USBs are on the right near the front. -

Hi.
Is this 30 return period a US thing or is it International?

I like the second part to your post. It sounds almost like you are blaming the damage on the cheap construction of the laptop and not the fact that you dropped a fragile piece of electronic equipment onto a very hard concrete surface from a height of several feet. How dare they make such garbage. You should be able to use it as a frizzbee if you so choose without it getting damaged. -

Hi.
I the UK, we have the distant selling regulation, it you buy an item over the internet and have not had the chance to try it as if you were in a shop you have 7 days to send it back for a refund, certain items exuded like software.
But if you buy it from a shop, it up to them if they will accept a return, 21 days would be nice!

Thats not the norm. That is only the policy of HP. Most stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. will only do an exchange and will not give back a refund on computers. HP just happens to have a great returns policy. You guys are lucky that you get most high end stuff before we ever see it in the states if at all. -
If you're looking for something that will take your drops and spills, then invest in a Panasonic Tough Book.
Any notebook (except for a Tough Book) could be considered "fragile." He was characterizing all notebooks in general, but I am sure you already realized that.
If it was such a light abrasion, why bring it up? I suggest that you be honest with them and ask how you should proceed from this point forward.
BEST OF LUCK! -
