I just got my zv5000 yesterday after sending back my r3000z. I had looked for pc3200 memory for it and ended up buying Adata 2x512. I wanted 2.5cas and read a review on Newegg that this guy had put it in his r3000z and it was great(I think half of those reviews are boggus). However, he sold me. The good news is it works. The bad news is only one 512 stick at atime. I am going to rma it back to Newegg and try the Kingmax they have. If anyone has Kingmax please post how it works.

The very good news is it does run at 400.
    CPU-Z says 2.5-4-4-14.
    Sandra with 256 of pc2700 = 2504/2504

    Sandra with 512 of pc3200 = 3078/3080

Could this be a bios problem that has been fixed in a new version?

Not trying to change the subject but, I only got the 3000+ this time as on the HP it was $225 to go to the 3400+. However cpu-z version 1.23 only shows an 8 multiplier when on desktop or always on. The Sandra cpu benchmark is also low so I take cpu-z as being right. How do I get a 9 multiplier?

If you don't already have BIOS R.12, get it, see if that helps. I do recommend sticking with the major brands of RAM regardless (Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, etc). Corsair XMS series in your case since you want CAS 2.5, though you'll have to hunt for them (PC Progress has been mentioned as a source).

The zv5000z/R3000z memory problems only show up when pairs of SODIMMs are used, and sometimes only when two 512MB sticks are used. It'd be easy for a reviewer to miss that.

New bios does not help. This is what I went thru on my MSI k8t and k8n. 64's can really be picky on memory if the bios is not right. MSI had it so Corsair wouldn't even work until they came out with a new bios. Does HP do much with bios in notebooks?

They mainly update the BIOS only when there's a reported/known problem and if enough people complain about it. If you report this issue to HP, they'll have it on record.

Regarding the ram, you may want to drop it down to CAS 3 or try a different brand.
