I have a dv6000z and the broadcom wireless adapter sucks. After a year I finally decided to buy an intel 3945abg, I ended up getting a 3945bg in my shipment. The card does not come up in XP Pro. I returned it and got another one and still the same problem.

Is this card just not compatible with my computer or is there a way to make it compatible. The broadcom really sucks and if this one doesn't work can someone please suggest another one for me to use.

Here is a link to the card I bought, the warehouse is only like 45 minutes way from my house so I just plan on going in there in person again, like I did today to swap out the card with a new one:

Also here is the link to another product I should maybe buy:
    http://www.getpartsonline.com/407674-001.html

The second link lists my computer as a compatible computer but what is the difference here. It looks like the same card. I am very confused as this second one might just be the broadcom one with the wrong model number listed. Also both say WiFi N, but if they are both intel cards the 4965 is wireless N compatible. Thank you.

HP puts a whitelist in the BIOS that only approves a handful of cards. You can patch it but I advise against it. There's a thread about how to do that in this forum.

Then again... the BIOS should have rejected the card and not let you boot. Are you sure the card is good?

I have no idea how to tell if the card is good. I have 2 other laptops. One of them is a Dell Inspiron 8100 which I do not think supports wireless nics. The other one is a Sony PCG-K13 and the wireless NIC is really buried inside the computer. Plus the screws are really hard to get out.

Does it show up in Device Manager? There's always the odd chance that the card is in the BIOS whitelist and you just need drivers. If so, you just need to go here and get them.

I'd guess that the card is bad then, assuming that your old one still works when you plug it back in? You have been careful to remove the battery before swapping out hardware right?

Yes I have brian. It has been replaced once already but who knows. I am not getting an error when booting up. Is there another way to test out the card to see if it works. The broadcom sucks, I need something else.

did you install the intel wifi managment console and the drivers ? it should work .
both cards you linked to seem to be the same , except for price ??
i have thr 965 abg intel card and it works very well , get 54mbps where the old dell card was lucky to get 28-30 mbps

by the way your laptop shows no suport for intel wifi , so maybe it is rejected by bios ?? bhere are all drivers listed fot your laptop

The card isnt even being recognized as an unsupported device. According to my computer nothing has changed hardware wise, well expect for the broadcom card no longer being inside inside the computer.

    Hi everyone,

KeithF40, Did you get the card working with your machine?

I ask as I seem to have the same problem...

I have an intel WM3945ABG card & am trying to install it in a Compaq Presario V6133EU. (I know the card is ok as I have tried it in a HP laptop & it works fine)

The card doesn't show in device manager....I have all the drivers for the card installed.
