Thanks for the info, but the 8600m GS in the dv9500t is only 256MB Dedicated!
From HP's webiste:
"The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8600M GS delivers unparalleled levels of graphics realism and performance. If configured with the 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), there will be 256MB dedicated memory and up to 255MB shared memory. If configured with the 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), there will be 256MB dedicated memory and up to 667MB shared memory. Key Features: Fully unified shader core dynamically allocates processing power to geometry, vertex, and pixel shading operations, enabling life-like realism?even in complex scenes. Completely unified and optimized for current DirectX 9 and next generation Direct X 10 games and applications. NVIDIA Lumenex(tm) engine delivers incredible image quality, floating point accuracy, and fast frame rates. DISCLAIMERS: Shared video memory (UMA) uses part of the total system memory for video performance. System memory dedicated to video performance is not available for other use by other programs. NVIDIA and GeForce are registered trademarks of NVIDIA Corp." -
what about turbocache?

256MB wouldn't be much of a difference to the 512MB version (If there was one) unless playing on high/very high resolutions . . .

What kind of resolution did u run that on?
thats quite a low score it seems!
and yeah that link there shows a similar laptop with the same graphics card getting a much higher score.
if that is the default resolution 3d2k6 score then something is wrong with your setup cuz my go7600 gets a better score with my dv9000t. -
well considering my zd8000 with an old P4 3.2 and x600 ati card got a 497, i'm going to consider this a major upgrade. Thanks for the tests, now I really can't wait for my laptop to come in!

2.Same graphics card but different driver
3.If someone runs 3d2k6 on their 9500 with 8600 and gets a better score please let us know.
It said on the result page "The result you just submitted was not obtained with Futuremark Approved drivers."
I have vista 64 bit driver and only the the 32 bit is approved. i wonder if that is why it could be low?
What do you think? -
Firstly Vista sux when it comes to games and drivers right now and Vista64 is worse! so yeah it could be the problem right there.
and like i said my go7600 gets a slightly better score so i would say soemthing is wrong, first could be the driver. -
maybe its underclocked as well

I got my score on the 8600gs up to 2611. it was underclocked
On the nvidia website, the stock clock according to them should be 600/700. I used ntune and the factory shipped speeds are, core bus 500 and memory bus 400, with that by 3dmark06 score was 2050. I changed it to core bus 550 and memory bus 450, with that by score was 2511. If i go higher then that the performance drop big time, a 3dmark06 score of 600. So as high as i can go is 550/450, not 600/700. If i put the memory bus past the core, 3dmark06 would freezes. -
Perhaps it was underclocked for a reason. I wouldnt overclock it unless you want to risk damaging your laptop. Hp downclocked it for a reason.
-
as long as you check the temps and they dont get TOO hot then an overclock should be fine under load.
3dmark06 score on 8600gs
