I purchased a DV9000 almost 3 years ago in August. It has been a decent laptop and I have had few major problems with it. Unfortunately major does not even begin to describe the problems I have. I had to have the motherboard replaced once in the first year (under the original warranty) and again about a year later under the extended limited warranty for the motherboard problems (I think this was due to problems with the video card) . Come year three I am experiencing the same problems as in the two years passed. Each time it has been due to the blank screen/random restart problem. Right now its a fairly minor problem with the random restarts being over a week apart but as memory serves it is a degenerative problem and in a few months I will be throwing this laptop into a brick wall to vent some frustrations.

So far tech support has been useless as I am (according to the rep) no longer under the extended warranty (which I strongly disagree with). They want me to pay for full tech support which I assume will be much more that I can currently afford. I almost think I would rather eBay a new (used) motherboard and replace it myself (I have no problem doing so) but am worried about getting another dead or soon to be dead board, or discovering there is a difference between my very early edition DV9000 and the current market offerings.

Anyone out there still have a DV9000 that didn't have problems? I would really like to know if I am just unlucky or doing something wrong. Also if it helps this is the AMD version of the DV9000.

My parents have a dv9208nr that's still going strong. It helped that I flashed in the BIOS update that runs the fan 24x7 shortly after it became available.

If you're feeling adventurous, search this forum for instructions on how to reflow the NVIDIA northbridge/GPU on the motherboard. I'd do that before purchasing another motherboard that's liable to develop the exact same problem. There are a few years of laptops with NVIDIA timebombs in them. Awful mess.
