Has anyone heard of a 40% off coupon for the HDX? Someone mentioned it I thought but nobody can verify seeing it. All I've seen are 30% off ones.

To my knowledge, HP has never offered a 40% off coupon for the HP Pavilion or HDX notebooks. 30% is pretty much the maximum coupon they've offered percentage-wise. Sometimes a $500 off coupon does pop up from time to time, which is about 35% off if a notebook is configured at about $1399.

It would be nice for HP to offer one, though... :D

Definitely. It let's me add $200 worth of goodness and still keep it under $1000.

I read sometime late last year there was a deal on another website that let you stack that 30% off coupon with a second discount. I don't remember the website, but many folks at the time did get tricked-out hdx18 notebooks for around $2000.
