I was using a ZV6005 as Fry's electronics and the computer seemed pretty slow. It was running a 100gb 4200 RPM hard drive. I ordered an 80 gb 5400 rpm ZV6000. Should I see a "big" performance increase in my ZV6000?

I must be going crazy....everyone who has used the ZV5000Z and ZV6000 say it's fast...but I see a very noticeable lag when compared to the ZX5000, DV1000/4000....Summary: The A64's are laggy/"slower" than the Intel P4/Centrinos (including ones that should be slower than the 3200...like the P4 3.0, Centrino 1.5)

I think it's anecdotal. Chances are the machine you were using was loaded with so much software and crap in the background. My mom's eMachine runs XP Home on a Celeron D 2.53 GHz and used to run slow until I disabled a lot of garbage like AIM from loading at startup. Runs much better now.

Did it have just the 256mb ram that comes standard with the machine? That's kinda low for XP too.

    On the way....
    HP Pavillion zv6000
    AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8GHZ
    512 Mb (2x256)
    128 Mb ATI 200M
    DVD/CDR combo/40 GB 4200 rpm
Win XP Home / 8 cell batt

    Current beater: iBook 600 Mhz G3/ 384 MB / 15 GB HD / 8 MB vRam
