A prior post speculated that this was not possible, but nobody seemed to have tried vista or current bios. Is it possible to get a total of 4gb working? I can't seem to find anybody who says this has failed with vista...
Thanks in advance.

No because the old napa platform can only see around ~3gb +/- .2
-
So would it be possible to get 2gb in one slot and then 1gb in the other? Or would a single 2gb stick be seen as the full amount?
-
Sorry to interupt you but the $ gb OF RAM IS POSSIBLE IN THE DV 9000 NOTEBOOK. As it has nothing to do with the hardware of the notebook dv9000 is a wonderful notebook but the only thing what is stopping it to detect the 4 Gb of ram is the OS. The Windows 32 bit operating will not allow it to detect the ram but if the system is installed with a 64 bit of windows vista os then it will work wonders...

the dv9000t would not be possible UNLESS it was using the Core2Duo processors. Main reason is the Centrino Duo line is not x64, and you need an x64 OS to detect past 3 gbs. I believe the dv9000t was produced with the Core2Duo as an option, so if you have one of those + the x64 OS you should be fine. I run 4gbs on my dv9500t which is just the saint rose version of C2duo with X64 vista ultimate

According the the 945GM chipset data sheet it does support up to 4gigs of ram.
-
so will my dv9205us only show 3gb of Ram if i install 4gb of RAM in it? if thats that case should i only buy 3gb of Ram 2gb in one slot and 1gb for the other

dont forget if you dont match the RAM, you don't get dual channel
-
will this ram work in my DV9205US

HP offers the dv9500t with 4gb of ram. They swear that the dv9000t is not upgradeable beyond 4gb, Not because of 32bit or 64bit(although 32bit will have its limitation around 3gb) and definitely not because of the chip sets both chip chip sets support 4gb. Word is its due to the Bios firmware. Dont know of any known case of someone with 4gb in a 9000, on the other hand, don't know of any known failed attempts to recognixe the 4gb/

Intel says the chipset supports 4GB, but I believe there's something wrong with the bus that only lets around 3.25GB to be used. I read it somewhere a while back.
Knowing me, I'd get 2x2GB sticks instead of 2+1 because that 256MB makes all the difference
As for dual channel, you need matching memory sticks in both slots. Dual channel makes your RAM quite a bit faster. -
There is nothing wrong with the bus, it is just how it is. Any Intel chipset before the Santa Rosa platform only supported 32bit addressing, even though there was support for 64bit instructions.
So no matter what, you'll only see around 3.25-3.5GB of RAM. -
Oh. Well it's not like 768-512MB missing is gonna make a difference.
Unless you''re talking about bragging rights. Then it makes all the difference. -

All I have to say (and this has probably been said before by many others not including myself), is NEVER buy 4gb of RAM from HP! Their price is ridiculous! You can buy them at newegg.com for around $100.
-
Yeah I just picked up 4 gig of Kingston RAM for my new 9500t for $92 shipped compared to what $400 from HP
-
Yeah, nobody's saying to get the RAM off HP. I'm sure the salesperson cracks-up inside when someone does.
about HP dv9000t not supporting 4gb- Many say it (including this forum) that it is the Bios firmware. Im not sure of the 32bit addressing thing. Weren't there many pre Santa-Rosa 64 bit- 945PM laptops came with and addressed 4gb? -
Laptops and desktops were sold with 4GB though... -
thanks for the information..
until now i am not upgrading my RAM because of mny ppl said no matter your platform is,either 32 or 64 bit cannot put 4gb RAM..
gee..thats some kinda wrong information -
Thanks! -
Intel says up to 4gb addressable on the 945pm.
Note: its not a Santa Rosa- http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945pm/index.htm
Most who purchase 4 gb of mem for there laptops on neweeg.com say they see only 3.5 or so but those with 64bit Vista are saying they see 4gb. (with pre-SantaRosas)
I will know soon as I ordered 2- 2gb sticks and have Vista64 and a previous to SR chipset. -
first off, make sure you have identical sticks of RAM in your slots for Dual Channel, which provides the best performance for now
secondly, you need to have a 64bit OS (for example, Vista Ultimate 64bit Edition, XP Pro x64 Edition, Ubuntu 64bit)
to have a 64bit OS, you need to have a 64bit CPU (Core 2 Duo)
but it seems as if they cant read past 3.2GB anyway. the extra 1.2GB is pretty good anyway
and btw, an extra 256MB makes a pretty big difference to me
4gb ram dv9000t possible with vista?
