Hi again,
With 2 units HP Pavilion dv6585ef it takes 4 min to boot Vista.
This unit has 2 Go DDR2 667 MHz, SATA HDD 5400 and a Core 2 Duo T7300 (2 GHz) + Windows Vista Home Premium.
Do you think that it's normal?
Is there any solution?
As we are a retailer and ASP, we have checked and noticed the same things in the others dv6585ef.
Is there any explanation?
Thank you.
Craig.

I have the same slow booting problem. When my 7200 rpm drive arrives I will let you know the results. What brand is your current hard drive?

Same problem here with DV-9428nr with Vista Premium.
Just spoke about it last night in a thread. I just took this think out of the box yesterday and Vista is slow to boot as well as shutdown.
AGGGHHHHH!
When I shutdown it says "Logging Off" forever then "Shutting down" even longer.
Not to mention that Vista crashed and spoke about some crash dump and then said it recovered from some unexpected error last night.
I mean come on I just bought this thing for over a grand I dont need any headaches or slouchy behavious.
I feel as if though Vista is some BETA OS. -
Use the search feature, this forum is littered with posts like this. Just do a clean install: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1943395&highlight=64+bit#post1943395 and clean up your vista afterwards: http://www.tweakhound.com/vista/tweakguide/index.htm. After that you should have a fairly quick boot up. However, if you're still not satisfied, then you can consider upgrading your hdd. I replaced mine, as it was fairly slow.

do a clean install.
my dv6500 with core 2 duo 7300 2.0 ghz/2gb ram/200gb 4200 rpm hd boots up in about 20 secs and shuts down in about 15
of course i've also streamlined it via msconfig and use ccleaner but its a very fast bootup/shutdown -
I know what you mean about a clean install. I used my own Vista install disc and installed it twice but it still takes ages to finish loading everything. It will load the desktop and some stuff then if I try to connect to a wireless network or look at the power option it goes real slow. Very irritating to wait 5 mins just to fully load up.

With a msconfig done it takes 4 min to boot.
and in order to do a clean install I need the Vista Anytime Upgrade CD but I don't have it.
The problem is that it was shipped with Vista and we have created the Recovery kit.
Thank you for any help.

I also have gotten one of the Seagate 160 gig 7200 rpm drives today. WOW what a huge difference. Boots WAY faster, loads way faster, and everything is way faster. WAY cooler, now my laptop doesn't doesn't feel hot anymore. This was from a Fujitsu 5400rpm 100 gig.

BUMP, does anyone know what exactly I should uninstall from the startup list and how?
Thanks in advance for your help. -
pretty much anything you dont recognize, thats not microsoft or nvidia.
course it doesn't always install cleanly, thus u should do a clean install. instructions have been posted, and its super easy.
do it. -
Many people tell others to do a clean install, and they all say it's "super easy, just do it."
I've even got a guide on how to put XP on a DV6500T. Yet people e-mail me all the time asking me to walk them thru it. So it's not easy, but can be done if you figure out the exact specs of your laptop, and get the drivers you need. The problem is most people don't know how to do this, so they ask me for help. I don't have time to walk people thru a complete format and re-install of XP. Getting the drivers you need involves searching this forum for your model. That's how I made my guide and figured it out. I read a bunch of threads until I had links to all the drivers I needed.
If you do a format and get XP working, your machine will boot in 30 seconds. The pay off is worth the hours of work going thru all the steps.
4min to boot an HP DV6585ef !!
