It's incredible, but I just noticed that my window drag with content ability has disappeared. I go to personilize -> window color and app -> classic appearence -> effects and click show window content while draging... all is good until the restart.

Does vista think that my comp doesn't have enough power to run aero at fullest? I have 4 gigs of ram, and 130M video card, what else does it want?

anyone with the same problem? or solution?

    Thanks!

First of all, Windows Experience Index scores aren't worth a damn. You could fake them to show 8.0 if you wanted.

Secondly, ALL HP Vista installs i've seen so far are borked. Install a clean copy yourself, then complain if it doesn't work. And if you'll ask HP about it, i bet they'll answer in the same way that Apple did to the girl that had a Macbook with a VERY annoying high-pitched whine in all the recordings - "it's a bonus feature, we won't guarantee that it works right."

I did install clean vista, it behaves the same way... I understand it can be faked, but I didn't fake anything.

I have reason to believe its very much the fault of NVIDIA's powermizer.

When your 130m sits idle, powermizer will decrease the clock speed, but as soon as you move a window or minimize/maximize a window, NVIDIA's drivers don't pick up on that and proceed to render the windows at the decreased clock speed, therefore causing lag.

You can check laptopvideo2go.com and try newer drivers, that may help, but the 2 laptops I had with an nvidia 8400m they both showed some lag in Aero.

My laptop with an Intel x4500mhd though? Runs flawless.

Yes, the powermizer does slow down Aero sometimes (and bug some other things, that's why i disabled it), but it isn't at fault here. Also the new GTs don't have the powermizer bugs of the 8400M and 8600M series.

I think it's got something to do with the registry. Get CCleaner and run it, clean both files and registry, see if it does the same then. If it still disables Aero, at least you're gonna get back some HDD space. :)

I have 500GB drive, since it's new installation, I only use up about 5%. I'll try ccleaner, maybe it's a registry problem :S

    hm, problem is still there...

I changed windows look settings, to max visual effects. Restarted and everything went fine. After restart I had the ability to move around windows. Left computer unattended for a while, came back and its dragging outline again! what is going on?
