    Hi all,

I got a DV5T last week. I'm excited to try out blu-ray for the first time, but I can't figure out how to pass multichannel audio out the NVIDIA HDMI out port. I'm connected via HDMI to a Samsung T240HD monitor, and via optical audio out from the monitor to a Creative Labs DDTS-100 decoder. I tried an mkv file that I know has 5.1 audio using VLC media player, but all I get is 2 channel stereo. I can't find any setting in control panel that mentions anything beyond stereo. Is my laptop not capable of outputing multichannel sound via HDMI? What am I missing?

    Thanks!

You can stream Dolby Digital and DTS over HDMI to a decoder. You have to make sure the digital output is selected in the sound properties in Control Panel. Then you have to make sure whatever software you're using is set to use "SPDIF" to pass the signal.
