    Hello!

As most know, the HDMI connection in this notebook has caused a lot of questions. Actually I'm quite satisfied with it. I connect it to my HDTV and can get good quality audio and video from just one cable. But only stereo sound.

My problem really is trying to get 5.1 surround sound from the HDMI connection, if possible. I understand that I can't do it connecting the computer directly to the TV. I think an audio receiver is needed to do this. The question is if it is possible to get 5.1 surround sound from the single HDMI port on the notebook, if so what is needed to make it work (software and hardware) and if anyone has accomplished the connection.

My notebook is a HP dv 9700t CTO running with windows vista (this customizable model doesn't have a S/PDIF output)

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes its possible, you would need a digital AV reciever, capable of HD Audio through HDMI, and although expensive, thats the easier part, the harder part is finding the software that will output it through HDMI, i think the very very newest versions of PowerDVD do it, but they cost a few $$$ and results, as i have read, as a bit hit and miss

    Thank you for your response!

I see that HDMI technology in notebooks is new, as it seems that the software required to enjoy the features are not that easily available. Is there a way to configure quickplay to play 5.1 surround sound through HDMI?
