Ok here is the deal. I upgraded to XP pro on my 5000t. i also did the USB Registry patch to fix the USB draining the battery life. My problem i noticed is that when i hook up USB cable and a firewire at the same time. If i unlplug the usb i lose my firewire functions. in other words my external firewired hd dissapears. i have to unplug the 1394 and then hook it back up again to get it to get read again. Is anyone else who did the USB registry patch expirencing the same problem? let me know thanks.

I think you will find some usefull info in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1318531

You may need to load the XP HP essentials pack. That may fix your problem.

When researching external hard drive enclosures I remember reading about a dirty underhanded thing MS has done to people who have upgraded to SP2 and are running Firewire... The XP SP2 breaks firewire... bumps it down to only 100mps, instead of 400. The fix is you have to log on to MS, have your copy of Windoz validated before you can access the file/info to get it working at 400 (or 800 I presume) again.

BTW: If you have ANY info about QuickPlay v2.0, How to retain it during a hard drive WIPE (total format) , and re-install of XP PRO (not using the "recovery" discs) Please post here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=141817
