I just wanted to know if this upgrade is worth it for the dv9000t. Is it as good or better than the 7900GS? Will it make my battery life shorter? I do play some games but most of my gaming is done on my 360.

No way will the GeForce 7600 be better than the 7900GS, but it'll probably save you more battery life than the 7900GS.

In mostly anything, the higher number is stronger, so the 7600 is weaker than the 7900, but better than the 7400, etc.

I think that the upgrade is worth it. Go for it!

The go 7900 GS is much more powerful than the go 7600.

If you have the money to upgrade from the 256mb to the 512mb card, do it. It wont offer a considerable performance boost but it would be nice.

The go 7600 is not fast enough to utilize the extra 256 MB of VRAM. There will be times when it may dip into the extra VRAM, but in general you won't see much in terms of performance boost by going from 256MB to 512MB on the go 7600.

thanks for the replies, i forgot to add that i was talking about the 256mb 7900 GS that dell includes in their laptops vs this 512mb 7600 that you can get on the dv9000t. Would a dv9000t with a 256mb 7600 have a better battery life than one with the 7600 at 512mb?

Is either of the 7600 graphics cards at least strong enough to run vista with all of its eye candy without any problems?

There will be no difference in battery life between the 256 MB and 512 MB versions of the same GPU.

The go 7600 is strong enough to run Vista in all its glory.

It will give you better battery life but it is not better.

The RAM is on the card.

    The 7600 doesn't use TurboCache.

    ok
I hate arguing about puter stuff lol

even though a 128 bit interface card cant access 512 mb

it can access more than 256 mb

Im not sure exactly how much more but it can.

So the 512 mb version will show improvement over the 256 mb version in the right software.

I was looking to buy a notebook with a 7600, but is there a good 15.4'' laptop with a WSXGA+ matte screen? Cos I'm having trouble finding one with that...

    Thanks.

If you want e1705 vs dv9000t, it depends. The dv9000t has a much sleeker design and is thinner, in addition, the 9000's battery life is better.

As for 512mb vs 256mb, you won't see any difference unless you run games that use more than 256mb of VRAM. Unless you plan to play Quake 4 in Ultra Quality, or Oblivion with everything turned on, the 7600 go is good enough for you. It can handle most new-ish games like F.E.A.R., Doom 3, Painkiller, Pong, etc.

so not all the 512mb will be made use of on the dv9000t and on certain apps?? (in the most common - gaming)

Having 512MB on a 7600 is like putting Z rated high speed tires on your '62 Volkswagen Bug. Sure, it looks great, but there isn't enough engine to make it go that fast.

Graphics power come from the graphics processor, not the graphics memory. Memory IS needed, but only if the rest of the card is powerful enough to use it.
