Its allitle high. Use hdtune to check for errors and the "health" of the hdd.
Whats your CPU temperature?
RM Clock and Core Temp will give you CPU temperature.
Is your lappy on a flat surface? well ventilated(make sure you arent covering up any vents on your laptop?
And take a look at the guide to cooling down a notebook -
How much RAM do you have? If windows goes to virtual memory very often this will raise temp levels.

mine is about 42/43c at idle. about 46c at full budokai.
and thats with a 7200 rpm hd. -
obviously if u cant burn the recovery disks then yeah you have a problem, have u tried a different/better quality brand of dvd+r? if u have then there is definitely a problem, could be the hard drive, could be the optical drive.
but the hard drive temps are too high, they should be in the 40s, however dont be too surprised if you cant get it to the low 40s cuz 7200rpm drives tend to be hotter than slower ones. -
I have only had this notebook for 3 wks...I have 2Gs ram..I have 12 volt batt..it sits on top for wooden desk...

I bet you have a Fujitsu drive. I have one and mine runs at 51 and up to 56 under hard load.

When I use RM Clock..it shows up 45c then the fan comes on and it drops to 38.8c..this is on cpu 0...cpu 1 goes to 46.8 and drops to 39.8 c when the fan finishes...this is just watch this forum and nothing else....the HD id is................................................................................................ Its a Seagate. I had one, and saw those temperatures as well even in a different notebook.

After I got RM Clock I see that hp info not the same readings ...The fan comes on ,meaning I hear it only 10 seconds out of every 1 minute for about 10-15 seconds..most of the time I dont notice the fan...it's on not as load ...the fact that I can't get a good copy of recovery disks from the recovery manager is that they say error when trying to complete the process....Using DVD +R's maybe I need to up the quality and try again.....Thanks again to all as I'm not trying to be a pain...just new and have questions...and with the help from this forum I can make better decisions ,,,

Kdawgca....Thank You for UR answer as U can C the diff between the temps..guess I have no concerns here...

I have dv6000z, and before i got a notebook cooler pad, my hdd tem used to be the same. Depending on the room temperature and what i was doing with it, it was between 48 - 53 C.
Now that i am using a cooler pad, it's between 39 - 44 C.
The cooling pad had no effect whatsoever on my CPU temps, btw, which is between 46 - 51 C.
But if you're not using a cooling pad with your PC, then i'd say your hdd temp is normal. -
Read the read-me file to see what type of DVDs are recommended when you burn your recovery partition. As far as I remember, there was a restriction to the type of DVD. Then, again, be sure to get quality media for this important data.
Do you have a lot of programs running in the background? This may be a cause for the high HDD temp. The most often reason, however, is the ambient temperature, which is critical for any laptop. If your room temp is 27+, you can expect higher temperatures. To check what programs you have running in the background, open START/RUN, type msconfig and check the start up sheet. Btw, this is for XP, I'm not aware if it is the same with Vista.
