Any idea why HP only offers 7200 RPM hard drives on the DV8000 and no others, particulary the new 2000 and 6000 models just released ?
-
I have no clue why.
Yea the 7200RPM is faster, blah blah.
Look at the big picture. 5400 RPM isnt that bad, and you could check out the 2000 and 6000 this way, too. -
From what I've seen in the HP catalog, it's literally cheaper to order from HP with the 5400rpm drive and buy a 7200 from Newegg. I believe it's an additional $130-140 to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive through HP, but you can buy one from newegg for as low as $100.00...so you can actually pay less, and have two drives. Put the 7200 in your notebook, buy an enclosure for the 5400 it came with and shazzam, you have a nice external backup drive.

Good idea. I might just do that myself. What are the particular things that one needs to make sure an aftermarket drive has in order to operate/install/work correctly with the dv2000?
Thanks. -
Any standard 2.5 inch ATA-6 notebook drive that newegg sells should be fine. Which is pretty much every drive they sell.
-
Why the heck dont they just discontinue the 4200 drives i mean comon there a joke, nobody whats that Sh** in there brand new computer.

Just make sure to order the right interface, either PATA or SATA. But a 7200 PRM drive makes a world of difference, especially over a 4200 RPM drive.

Is upgrading the hd on a dv2000 difficult?
-
It shouldnt be too difficult. The HDD bay is accessible by removing 2 screws from underneath the laptop(circled in red)...
5400 RPM verus 7200 RPM
