the regular 6 cell performs poorly and the 12 cell performs decent at best.
i would want to get the 12 cell but it seems like it would ruin the looks of the laptop.
i am wondering how the high capacity 6 cell performs as review sites dont label them as high capacity or regular. thanks
NEVERMIND. i went searching and finally found the answer.

A 6 cell is still a 6 cell! May offer slight more performance, but if you want better battery life get that. Yes 12 cell does look ugly but hey function over style or style over function?
-
For real. What's real ugly is having to fight over a power outlet and having some long *$%^ cord running from the table to the wall.
12 cell ftw. -
On that note, this issues has been debated and posted TO DEATH. If you want more than 2 hour charge time on your laptop, get the high cap 6 cell. If you want more than 3 hours go for the 12 cell. End of story. If you want looks, get the 6 cell and save the money for cool looking clothes. If you want functionality without being tethered to a powercord every few hours, 12 cell. End of story.

is it possible to underclock the cpu for better performance. ie. lowering the voltage.
-
It sure is possible. Keep in mind HPs do have crappy charge times in general. Can't hurt to look at the 1420.
-
yeah but considering there is a 30% discount + a student discount available. im looking at around 40% off the price. i built a dv2500t to around 1250$ and with the discount it came out to be below 800$ which is awesome. i would get a dell but its ugly compare to this. however there are some sacrifices such as the protruding 12 cell battery.
i think the spec i set was:
2gh c2d
2gm ram
8400gs
12cellbatt
bluetooth
160gb hd -
I got the 12 hour battery since it raise the computer back off the desk or bed. Seems it would be a better way to get heat circulated under the laptop.
Right now I have to put a book under my 3000z or it will shut off if on the bed or on the couch... -
I bought both 6 cell and 12 cell battery and I have to agreed with you on the air circulation. Plus it's easier to type with the 12 cell because the laptop is tilted and easier to use the keyboard.
-
NEVER, never put your notebook on the couch or bed as it needs to breathe and can't cool properly on a bed or couch.
That is why the 12 cell is a bonus as it lets the air flow under the notebook. I don't think it looks bad at all and I love getting the 4+ hours I get, (running on high performance mode too). -
I've got both the 6-cell and the 12-cell. I love the battery life of the 12-cell, but the 6-cell makes it look so much smaller!
So usually I use the 6-cell because I just plug it in @ work anyways, and use a notebook cooler pad when put on my bed.
If I know I will be away from an outlet for a long period of time, I can just swap to the 12-cell. -
That is exactly what I do... except when not using the 12 cell, I put it in plasic and in the fridge.
-
I ended up buying a 12-cell as I couldn't stand the small life the stock 6-cell gave me...having that tilt makes for easier typing and it allows of decent airflow...but how are you getting 4+ hours using a 12-cell on high performance??...i need to know!!..lol...i get on average 3-3.5 hours..

Lowering the screen brightness, turning wireless off, and messing around with the GPU/Power saving options can all help get more battery life.
-
I turn off the wireless and my notebook is running very efficently as I have no bloatware or spyware on it. I keep the services and the system tray to the minimum. Things like that. I do think having 2K of memory helps too.
6 cell battery vs high capacity 6 cell vs 12 cell.
