I would BET it is software related, and I am reasonably sure if I am willing to reinstall Win7 things would start working again... but I use it so infrequently and getting this Win7 notebook to use the printer on my XP/32 network it such a chore... well you get the idea.

I did all the simple things like uninstalling the device and letting the system discover/reinstall... no luck. I think it is a USB device, so it may be related to a USB driver issue ...???? Any suggestions before I take the plunge???

I'm having the same problem too.. but i can get it working in my Linux box. Don't know how to troubleshoot it in Windows.

You are talking about the one built into the screen bezel, right? I use it so infrequently, that I don't know for certain when it stopped working or correlate it to other events. The (re-)discovery obviously sees it ... in skype, I just get a spinning little circle that never times out to an error. I recently installed XP Mode, but I don't think THAT had anything to do with it. The other day, HP assistant(?) said it needed me to reboot to complete some task... but it didn't exactly say WHY it was screwing with my machine in the first place ... Information hiding isn't worth what it was made out to be...

Yes.. HP TrueVision HD built-in camera. I seldom use it too and just recently discovered its not working anymore in Skype. I don't recall installing something that related to the camera.

well I just went through all the effort of reinstalling to Factory Image and still nothing. I really do not believe it is hardware, but I need to send it in to get it resolved (yech!) 2 days for HP to ship me a box and 7-9 day turnaround. I even reverted back from F.1B -> F.1A. The computer doesn't get moved around, so I am not sure what is going on....
