    Hi,
Has anyone tried loading 64 bit version of XP on x6000 with 6xx series processor on it? Although it is supposed to support EM64T but somewhere on internet i read that EM64T needs special BIOS support also so that 64 bit featurs can be really used.

Please let me know your feedback on the same, i am stuck with my decision since i wanted to buy 64 bit laptop preferably based on Intel rather then AMD. And it is important for me that 64 bit OS work on the laptop.

    Thanks
    Arvind

Why do you want Intel's 64-bit clone of the AMD64 instruction set rather than the real thing? Especially since AMD chips run MUCH cooler.

I am unable to find a good AMD laptop based on AMD 64 3700+ and 1600x1200 or similar display, 2 GB RAM. And i need this to be from one of the reputed brands since i need to use it in India and Only brands like Compaq, HP, Acer, Toshiba are supported over here.

    Thanks
    Arvind

Ah. Yes, that's been a huge problem. The closest thing I can think of is this one:
    http://www.amdboard.com/ferrari_4000.html

But that's using the low-power AMD Turion, not quite as fast as a 3700+, and you're on your own for upgrading to 2GB RAM. And you'll have to wait a few weeks for it to start shipping. Still, it looks like a very well-balanced machine, nice compromise between performance and weight.

I do wish HP would build an Athlon 64 version of the x6000. I'd almost certainly buy one. Especially if it has a Linux-friendly high-end nVidia GPU.
