I didn't even think it was possible for a 64-bit system to switch to 32-bit. Am I wrong here?

I changed the Display DPI from 96 to 120 to see if I liked it better..easier to read. I changed my mind and switched back to 96 DPI and noticed that my icons looked like crap. I looked at Control Panel->Appearance and Themes->Display->Settings - "Color Quality" and the highest available is 32-bit! 16-bit is also available.

How do I rectify this issue?

Color bit-ness and system bit-ness have nothing to do with each other.

I didn't know someone could get the color settings mixed up with the actual 32-bit and 64-bit architecture of the Operating System. Then again, I did read about a tech support call where a person was pointing their mouse at the monitor and couldn't get the mouse to move on the screen.............

Yeah, I understand that my 64-bit processor didn't revert to a 32-bit processor.

    I should have worded it:

I didn't even think it was possible for a 64-bit system to switch to 32-bit color quality.

I thought there was a correlation between the two but apparently there isn't. Obviously, I'm not knowledgeable on graphics...I just thought I remembered the color quality being set to 64-bit before switching to 120dpi so the apparent decrease in quality after switching back to 96dpi led me to believe that I had interfered with something and needed to repair or reinstall something. Now I know that thats not the case and 32-bit is the systems max for color quality.

So would there be anything else I could check that might've changed when switching the dpi setting?

    64 bit color???????????

I know I have some games such as motor cross that will switch from 32 bit to 16 bit graphics and change the dispaly from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600 when the game is started and then when I exit the game. It changes back to 32 bit color and 1024 x 768 display res.

    Resolution is unchanged.

One thing I did notice was that Display->Appearance->Effects - "smooth screen fonts" had been turned off...makes a little difference.

The only other thing I'm wondering is that under Display->Settings->Advanced->Color Management, the "Current Monitor" is set to "Generic Television" and "Default Monitor" is set to "None". Am I correct that the current/default should be "Plug and Play Monitor"? If so, I can't tell how to set it as the default.

Also under Color Management, should there be any color profiles loaded into the "Color profiles associated with this device" box?
