I just looked on CNET regarding a review of the dv8000, and some of the users had tried to install XP Pro 64-bit, and found that it would not work properly. Has anyone here tried this, and what were your results? I was told that this was as a result of using proprietary extensions in the bios. I would not like to buy the dv8000 only to find that I was stuck with a 64-bit prosessor crippled with a 32-bit OS limitation two years from now.![]()

I haven't tried the 64-bit version of windows but many people here have so it should work. I'm not sure what's exactly the problem here, maybe give us a link to see what this is about...
At http://www.planetamd64.com/ there's a lot of info about WinXP64, so maybe look there. -
GRR!!! I can't find the forum where I read of these problems, but, basically what was stated was that they tried to install Pro-64, and it wasn't working. I was just wondering if someone here might be able to confirm or deny this.

64-bit WinXP is strictly for power users. I suspect some newbie tried it and got confused. Getting ahold of all the drivers you need can be tricky. It looks like most OEMs are ignoring it, waiting for 64-bit Windows Vista instead, much to my annoyance.
Hmm, I wonder if you could install 64-bit WinXP on the dv8000's second HD, leaving your 32-bit WinXP and QuickPlay unmodified? It should work. -
Found the link for where people were having problems - turns out it was right here....
