Has anyone else noticed that turning off wireless via the touch sensitive button doesn't actual disable wifi? Or is this just me?

Pressing the WLAN button should enable/disable WLAN and/or bluetooth. If it doesn't do anything, I'd look at re-installing the quick launch driver/software, but check HP Wireless Assistant to make sure you have Wireless on in the first place.
It works fine on my 6910p.

It works fine on mine too. Even the automatic switch between lan and wlan works; you can enable or disable that in the bios. So as soon as you plug in a network cable, wireless switches off and vice versa.

And when I press the wireless button at the top of the notebook, it does turn off.
