Just bought a 6910p notebook for my son to use in college. (I would like to keep it for myself and give him my dell d620 but thats a nother story).

Anyway looking at the notebooke when it is open I notice some uneveness in the back right between the keyboard and the hinge. There is a light grey strip that runs along the back and there seems to be a slight hump in it as it goes over the hinge area and around the volumn control. The left of the notebook doesnt have this.

Is this normal or is mine the only one?

    Thanks

Just a minor assembly issue. I've had the same problem with my nc6400, but once I reseat the switch cover (that's what that strip of plastic is called), it's fine now. The plastic fits very tightly into the chassis, so it's just an oversight during assembly.

Its not as if the grey strip that runs along the back isnt seated correctly its as if the the hinge underneath it is lifiting that part of the notbook higher. Is this grey metal strip (appears to be metal anyway) glued down?

It's not glued. It's just a set plastic grapples. I've got the same thing.

Oh yea, let your son have it... =)

I got my 6910p on Monday and it had the same hump starting near the wireless button going up to power button, in front of the left hinge. I think it is an assembly issue of this laptop.

Do you have problems inserting the battery or plugging AC adapter when the laptop is off ?

Every time I do this, quick buttons' LEDs blink and the volume down LED remains on until I turn on the laptop.

What area are you talking about:

    Hinge in the first picture...

Or the hinge 'gutter' in the second pic.
