I have recently installed SP3 on my 6910p and now for the 2nd time since the installation I am facing the dreaded blue screens !!

In the entire time that I have been working with XP Pro I never seen a blue screen so I am wondering if this is due to the installation of the service pack.

Are there any other users of the 6910p or other HP notebooks that had this?

Last blue screen had a text which suggested upgrading my BIOS but before I do this I rather like some advise from experienced users

Out of experience with Microsoft Service Packs, and how the problems started happening after the installation of SP3, I would say it is the service pack. You could uninstall it, reinstall XP and don't install SP3, or wait with your current problems until Microsoft fixes SP3.

A good rule for people that don't want to have any problems with their computers is to wait about 3-6 months after a Service Pack is released to install them on your machine. Obviously there are those people that want to install them anyways and take the risk and so forth, but if you don't want to have problems with your system and can't sacrifice any down time, then wait to install service packs until they are stable.

you should switch off the auto restart. when your xp does crash next time you will be able to see the error message and maybe you´ll find a solution to your problem. bad drivers are also a very common reason for the bluescreens.

you should go to the control panel -> system ->advanced -> start and shutdown and switch the restart feature off. since i just have a german windows in front of me, the actual names of the tabs might differ a bit, but i´m sure you´ll find the checkbox for switching the restart feature off.

I have installed XP pro SP3 and there's no problems here with blue screens.
(Made a slipstreamed XP-cd with SP3 and did a clean install)

    Edit: ...on a 6910P
