I want to ask something about these laptops:

    - Which one has better build quality?
    - Which one has better display?
    - Which one has better keyboard/trackpad/trackpoint?
    - Which one is cooler and more silent?

Has anyone used both of them? Has anyone switch from T400 to 6930p or vice-versa?

    Thank you so much!

if you get the T400 skip the SSD I have them failing all over at work. Otherwise they have been great machines.

    I work on this hardware.

The T400 beats the pants off of the 6930p for construction quality. The board is braced into the top/bottom case in the HP, versus a standalone magnesium structural frame independant of the Top/Bottom case on the T400. The plastic is also much more rigid and impact resistant.

The 6930P is a "Home User" machine, and as such, will have a nicer looking, glossy screen. The T400 is a more business or hard-use orientated machine, and has a easier to read matte finish. It's a matter of preference.

IBM/Lenovo's in-house designed (Typically Chicony Mfg'd) keyboards will always beat insert-random-mfg-here HP ones. The touchpads are the same, as they are all Synaptic. I'd give the win to Lenovo for the touchpoint as well.

Noise wise, they are about the same. The HP runs warmer, due to a smaller heatsink assembly, leading to greater retention of heat.

    My 0.02. Enjoy.

Most of the 6930p I've seen had a matte display...

Admittedly, the only ones I see at work are Warranty repair work, so that may have something to do with it. Also; I've only seen something like 2 or 3. I only work on Hp's when our HP guys get overloaded. :)

I've used both daily, we just upgraded our fleet from t61/t400's to the 6930p, all are matte display. They are nice machines, my only gripe is the lower resolution but that might just be how they are configured for our company.

Yet to have any die yet. same for the remaining t400's I have on the floor.
