I don't know if the 7690 will outperform the 6770m and that makes me think that it's weird that HP offers a stronger card on the "weaker" line. As of now the HP ENVY 17 3D has a 6850 which performs a bit less than the 6770m at the benchmarks here:

But then again, the "weaker" line as I refer to it is "high performance" and I was just thinking that if I get ENVY I want better performance than DV line.

The 6850m is stronger than the 6770m by quite a bit.

no, most of the 6850 cards only have GDDR 3 memory which sucks

    I think that you're right, if it's GDDR5 - which the ENVY 17 has.
The reviews I was looking at here: :)
    AMD Radeon HD 6850M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
    were DDR3 or GDDR3.
But still the ENVY 14 only has the 6630...

You're right. That and Aluminum body doesn't help the user who feels the heat. How much thinner is it than the DV6 though and it does seem to have nice venting.

I have the HP Envy 17 3D and the 1GB of Memory is GDDR5. The card screams! As far as heat...the 2nd Generation Envy with Sandy Bridge runs about 15-20C cooler than the original systems. Running anything in 3D and even 3D mode with glasses...temps hit high 80C ranges...palmrest gets warm, as opposed to the original Envy series where palmrest got HOT!
