Does HP offer a 7200 rpm hard disk in any of their models? The dv4t doesn't seem to have it.

How easy is it to change the hard disk and the memory myself? The IBM Stinkpad I'm replacing only works with IBM (Hitachi) hard disks, and its impossible to change the 2nd SoDIMM (under the keyboard) without voiding the warranty. I'm not going to tolerate that kind of nonsense in my new laptop.

I heard that some Dell computers, the restore CD/DVD lets you restore either XP or Vista, your choice, so its a back door into getting XP. Wonder if the same trick works with HP.

do you really need a 7200rpm? i mean 5400 works perfectly, and with ssd drives i'd suggest you wait until those, they're becoming cheaper and faster and more reliable every week.

about changing.. the ram should be the simplest task, and the hard drive depends on its placement inside the notebook. im not too familiar with hard drive changin but im assuming it shouldn't be too hard.

about the backdoor trick, that seems pretty cool, i don't know if hp has that option. but i would assume that you pay for the vista/xp combo switch. the company wouldn't make it illegally just to satisfy customers.

    good luck

well most of the HD are 5400.. and i believe 2x 160gig 7200rpm. But i suggest upgrading yourself. Its much cheaper, 320gig 7200rpm HD run a little over $175 on newegg. Prices are different I guess,, but much cheaper than HP. also the protect smart is not built in the hard drive HP provides... its more like an external sensor. so you could still upgrade your HD on your own.

Anyone can replace HD or RAM.

7200 is ALOT better than 5400, I did it on my hp and am reaping the benefits.
