Hey all- basically as the title says.

I have a creeping suspicion it's something to do with the drivers- Some of the 2012 drivers work just fine with no overheating, but the performance isn't as great as with the later 2013/2014 drivers.

It seems like the fan doesn't spin up to 100% when it should, and that the games never take a performance hit when they get close to the 90deg that shuts them down.

A strange bit though, is that I've played Bioshock Infinite around release with no issues- so it must've been the 13.4 drivers.. However, if I revert to them now, I get worse performance (I played the game on ultra before) and I overheat.

Couldn't find anything else on the issues on here, but I'll keep looking too.

    Very upsetting :(

Hmm,as drivers get released they tend to gain performance at the expense of heat.
You could clean the vents with a air can, and possibly repaste the gpu and cpu. Theres tons of videos on youtube showing you how to do it, that will help a huge amount.

DO NOT "repaste" the gpu and cpu dies unless you're certain you know what you're doing, and have accepted that if you mess up, you have no one to blame but yourself. That's not something i would advise just anyone to do.

I repasted my cpu and gpu with no idea of what to do except from watching a few youtube videos. Everything went fine with my envy 14 and temps under high load are significantly lower than before.

Well... i took the thing apart a tad, and cleaned vents.. and still having the same issue. It seems to be fairly clean, just.. odd that it overheats. It seems like a driver issue with the fans not kicking on to 100% when they should be..

Silly question, but what surface is the laptop resting on while in use? And generally what's your thermostat at home set to?
