Anyone have any guess as to differences in battery life between the (now obsolete) DV/DT8000 series and the new DT9000 series?

I would like to be able to get 3 hours for playing a DVD if necessary. I don't expect to be that far away from a power source, but anything under 2.5 hours is unacceptable.

It's a 17" laptop, how good could it be?

You might be able to get that much battery life with the dv9000's high capacity 8 cell but I doubt dv8000s will last that long.

I had a dv8000t, and the battery life seemed to be quite a bit longer than the dv9000z that I have now. I never actually timed it, however, but I really think the battery life in the 9000z is not good at all. I always keep it plugged in because it seems to run out so quickly if it's unplugged.

Just to clarify, HP sells two versions of their 8 cell battery for the dv9000 series.

I have a dv8000, and while I don't know the times for watching a dvd, for basic web surfing/im etc with brightness almost all the way down and wireless/bluetooth off i can top out at about 3.5 hours. Now wireless kills it very, very fast--even faster if you have a bluetooth device connected. I venture to say watching a dvd might knock it down to 2.5 hours max. And that's being generous.
