Just wanted to post some results, maybe others can do the same. 169.01 drivers, I believe, from that laptopvideo2go website.

    HL2: Lost Coast Stress Test
    Stock - 8400GS 400/800/600
    2.5ghz Penryn
    48fps

    OC - 8400GS 550/1150/750
    64fps

That is a 33% increase in speed with no artifacts. Maybe it will translate into real results for others as well. Keep in mind, this was at 1280x800, and while plugged in. As I heard it said on the Vostra 1400 forum, chances are good you'll only use your laptop to play games while plugged-in so the 3D Performance hit on battery life is a moot point. Overclocking just the 3D Performance within RivaTuner will not affect your day-to-day Vista usage, even with Aero.

Try nTune or atitool (yes I know it says ati but it works).

I believe it's an issue with HP laptops where you can't overclock your GPU past the 169.04 drivers.

Check out my thread to overcome this, posted right outside of this one " a guide to BIOS OC an HP 8600..."

It will work with your 8400 as well if all the steps are followed correctly.
