Nah, the 15.4"s are slightly offcentered too.
Here are some pics of a 15.4" T61.

Thanks. I looked 3 times, better get my eyes checked. -
Jeeves,
Thanks for the initial impressions. I've enjoyed going through your reports and the Q&A with other forum members. You've certainly not only gotten out some valuable initial impressions and benchmarks but an unplanned and unwanted side bar on HP warranty support.
I am supposed to be receiving a 2.2GHz / 120Gb 7200RPM HDD / WUXGA
8710W around August 8. I hope to be able to supply an equally informative first impressions write up.
Thanks again and I hope your replacement comes soon.
Regards,
Paul -
Just got an email from HP that the 8710W I ordered will arrive tomorrow, July 31. I should have my "first impressions" with benchmarks up at the end of the week.

Does anyone know if the bluetooth is part of the wifi card in this model? I am looking to buy one of the pre-configured models, but the one I picked doesnt have bluetooth. Is it as simple as buying a different wifi pci card with bluetooth down the road?
-
BT is on a separate module. You can purchase it afterwards. Have a look into service and maintenance guide for installation.
-
How about the heat? Is it uncomfortable on your lap? I just returned the dv2500 because it was too hot.
-
Your issues with the backlight have me very concerned though. The MBP has the new LED screen and from what I read over at rob golbraith's site it's one of the most accurate laptop screens available. If the HP screens are that bad, then I'll just stop my HP comparisons right now.
So, what did you end up with? Did your new 8510w have the same display issues? did you get the MBP? -
I had both the MBP and 8510W and kept the 8510W. I demand a lot from my computers and the MBP just didn't cut it. Not to mention the thing got wicked hot.
If you like OSX and that's what you are going to use it for then get the apple of course...otherwise no contest HP. All the software that's on OSX is available in some form or other for PC. More choice even. -
The rear is 1.3" Thick.
I spent more time than I want to think about trying to find the dimensions of the rear on the HP Compaq, because thats a major factor for me.
I finally ended up calling them (and got through immediately, wish I would have done this first!) and they had to go get one and measure it because none of their documentation had it.
The specs are pretty misleading, just a small portion is actually 1.1" thick, and I'm not even sure if this includes the feet. -
I'm quite sure the 8510w sits at a slight forward angle; after all, it appears to have more or less the same case design as the previous nw8440. 1.1" front, 1.4" back.
Also, although the bluetooth is on a separate module, the wireless button must be enabled in order for it to function. You can go in and disable the wireless connection later in windows, but the wireless button must be on for bluetooth to function. At least that's how it is on my nw8440; I can't imagine it being much different on the 8510w. In other words, both the wireless and bluetooth are tied together by the same button. -
Hi!
I have just bought a hp 8510w (T7700, WUXGA screen) and there are some things puzzling me...
I have have somewhat solved the fan issue by putting the laptop in the "Power saving" profile, where the fan gets loud rarely.
But i'm experiencing some other kind of problems... One boot out of 10-15 fails, and the laptop just hangs half-way into booting Vista. All i can do is push the power button for 6 seconds, than it will start ok. I've upgraded to the BIOS to the latest version, but that does not take care of the hanging :-(
Has someone else experienced the failed boot problem with their 8510w?
Is there something to be done?
Thanks! -
A few people have experienced hanging on their 8510 models. Myself and Jin have narrowed it down to a wireless/LAN problem. Try updating your wireless/LAN drivers from the HP website.
Also, we've found that hibernating instead of startup/shutdown solves the crash problem as well. Hibernating is actually superior to shutdown/startup if using Vista, and pretty much the same if using XP. Maybe try that too. -
Thank you so much for your suggestions; i will try this as soon as possible and report with the results !
-
Ever have any trouble getting the laptop out of hibernation?
-
Me? Nope...never had a problem, going in our out (that sounded bad
)
I know there were quite a few hibernation issues with XP a long time ago; MS claims to have fixed them though. My brother hibernates his T61p (XPP) fairly regularly w/o any problems.
