My 8510p doesn't charge anymore, and I can only use it off the battery (which is dying soon). I did some research around here and it sounds like the motherboard connection to the power jack needs some soldering?

What options do I have in repairing it? I can send it back to HP but I hear they take a long time and there's no guarantee of them repairing it. Mostly I'm hoping for a quicker repair time. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd try a new power adapter. HP is somewhat known for bad power adapters and the problem with the motherboard. Same thing happened to me on my old X1000.

I'd also guess it's the adapter. Get a new one sent ASAP!

Thanks for the advice, I'll buy a new adapter. Fingers crossed it'll solve the problem.

I agree, it's most likely the power adapter. I'm already on my 6th one after a year and and half of owning my nw8440.

The area where the wire going to the notebook first comes out of the brick is a very delicate connection. (Where the permanently-attached wire first comes out of the brick). There appears to be no stress-reduction inside the brick in that area (There is on the outside, but it doesn't do a very good job). Just about every one of my power adapters has failed in that area of the power brick. It's a very poor design IMO.

Don't buy an adapter. Get it replaced under warranty.

Yeah. They're cheap to send out so I don't see why HP wouldn't just send you one immediately.
