I've got the above laptop (8510p) with the fingerprint reader. My previous laptop was a Dell XPS M1530, also with the fingerprint reader. On the M1530, I set up the fingerprint reader and was able to login into the computer (connected to a Windows 2003 domain) with just a swipe of my finger. I didn't even have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL, just swipe my finger. Awesome.

Now, however, with my 8510p, I can't JUST swipe my finger to allow me in. I've set up the fingerprint reader and registered a finger on each hand. The fingerprint drivers DO work. Unfortunately, though, at login I still have to do a three-finger salute BEFORE being able to swipe my finger.

I specifically set up the scanner software on my 8510p hoping it would behave just like the M1530. Is there any software switches that control this that I missed, maybe? Or am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to push any keys to login - just swipe my finger. Is that too much to ask, HP??

You can go into the HP Security Suite on the notebook to change how many fingers are required to log in. I can't remember how to get to the setting...explore the menus and see where it is at.

How many fingers...? No no.. I'm trying to set this up so that instead of the usual "CTRL-ALT-DEL + Password" for domain login, all I'll need to do is "SWIPE FINGER" and it'll log me in.

Like I said above, I've already got two fingers registered, but I only need ONE to accomplish what I'm after. I wonder if I can just install the Dell software instead of the Credential Manager....

There's a system policy somewhere that sets that "ctrl-alt-del to log on" thing; try start->run: "control userpasswords2"

What part of the HP Secure Tools Credential Manager allows me to avoid pressing any keys, altogether, in order to log into the computer/domain? As it is now, I'm forced to press "CTRL+ALT+DEL" and THEN I can swipe my finger to login. Most annoying.
