Hi, according to HP website, the standard 8 cell 8510p battery can last up to 5 hours.. is that correct?
How about a more realistic measure?
Say.. 50% brightness, wifi on, max battery feature, surfing and using word processor... can that get to 4 hours?
Thanks

i think more like 3 hours

I haven't tried those settings, but I typical get a little over 3 hours with close to max brightness or at max with wifi on while doing basic tasks like web surfing. I think you might be able to stretch it to four hours doing what you listed and probably 5 hours if you heavily twick the settings (wifi off, very low brightness, etc).

usually manufacturers tell you the max time of the notebook while idle, on lowest brightness.
-
I hit 4 hours with the settings you described firstwave. Ok, like 3:58
Jin's also right about going even further. I turned everything off, just typed an essay and it went well into 4 hours. I actually lost track of time (sorry!) but the battery life is quite nice. -

It will get 5 hours with 0% brightness and idle, that's how HP (and most companies) think notebooks work.
-
0% brightness? SO like turning the screen off?
-
LOL, no just the lowest possible brightness...

Nah
I've hit 5 hours, but it takes a lot of general idling. Good if you're reading a lot of text.
I did productivity (Word/Excel/OneNote) for over 4 hours with what I would assume is about 50% brightness. There really isn't much difference below that in battery life gain. -
FWIW, I get about 3:30 w/ 80% brightness, browsing on ethernet + typing.

Dell 9 cells get about four hours so 3+ hours sounds about right
8510p advertised battery life correct?
